Strategic communications, crisis management, and public affairs for leaders who can’t afford to get it wrong.
Some situations call for a press release. Others call for someone who’s been in the room when the pressure is real and the margin for error is zero.
Botnick Consulting Group works with executives, public officials, law firms, and organizations navigating high-stakes communications challenges — the kind where reputation, relationships, and outcomes are all on the line at once.
The work spans strategic communications, crisis counsel, public affairs, and reputation management. Every engagement is different. The approach is always the same: clear thinking, honest advice, and a focus on what actually moves the needle.
Mark Botnick has spent the better part of two decades at the intersection of communications, politics, and high-stakes decision-making.
The foundation of that career was built inside New York City Hall. As a senior aide to Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Mark spent years at the center of one of the most ambitious municipal administrations in New York City’s modern history — working through two mayoral campaigns, in 2005 and 2009, and carrying real responsibility inside the administration throughout.
That work meant being accountable for results. He was part of the team responsible for tracking and delivering on Bloomberg’s campaign promises — keeping the administration honest and focused on what it had committed to do. Along the way, he was involved in some of the most significant policy fights of that era, including pension reform and the push for marriage equality in New York. He also ran former Mayor Ed Koch’s final political effort, New York Uprising — a reform campaign aimed at cleaning up corruption in Albany. That work earned him a spot on City & State New York’s 40 Under 40 list as a rising star in city and state government.
From there, he moved into the corporate world. As Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs at First Data Corporation, he was part of the team that took the company public in 2015 — one of the largest IPOs of that year. He also joined Bloomberg’s 2020 presidential campaign before eventually going out on his own.
That work has taken him well beyond New York — he’s advised prominent business and philanthropic leaders on communications strategy across multiple countries and continents.
More recently, Mark served as a spokesperson for the defense in one of the most closely watched legal proceedings in recent memory. It was a high-pressure, high-visibility role that required steady judgment and careful messaging under intense public scrutiny. That experience — and the broader question of how communications professionals should operate inside contentious legal battles — has taken him into the classroom as well. He’s lectured on the topic at leading universities in the US and at the Sorbonne in Paris.
Today, he works with a range of clients — C-suite executives, public officials, and organizations that need clear thinking and sound counsel when the stakes are high.
